In Keith Windslow's apartment, two figures were eating dinner at the table - namely, Keith and Rush.
Rush was minding his own business, munching down on chicken that was already in the fridge, which Keith had just heated up.
Keith, on the other hand, seemed to have much less of an appetite, eating at a slower pace, consumed by thought. He was feeling, well, awful. Everything had gone more or less downhill the moment Pokemon Island got swallowed up, and most of it was his fault, because he didn't keep his damn mouth shut. The first time didn't exactly endear him to the Trainers, and the second time more or less pissed off the Digidestined, and a verbal scathing from Christa to boot. Kari's expression had yet to leave his thoughts.
No wonder he left so early. He couldn't bear to be in their presence.
Suddenly, the phone began ringing. Keith had a feeling about who was calling, but didn't even budge. He didn't want to talk to her. Not right now.
(BEEP!)
"Keith..." Christa's voice outputted from the phone's speaker, having been forced to leave a message. "The meeting's over, though you missed something important. I'm worried about you. Don't get me wrong, you screwed up, but I think you're taking this way too harshly."
Keith sighed, closing his eyes. Maybe he was. He wasn't so sure.
"But there's a bigger problem. Another version of Hikari has been kidnapped and taken to the Dark Ocean, and everyone's getting ready to save her. In the morning, we're gonna have Celebi take us back in time."
"Hikari?!" Keith's eyes shot open, as he looked at the phone, his mouth gaping open. Of all things to miss...!
"Just meet us at DATS HQ in the morning, okay? What happened to the hot-blooded, nerdy kid I know? I refuse to believe you're just gonna walk away, Keith. What kind of man would you be to just run away from your problems? Well... Goodnight."
Beep.
Keith slammed his fist onto the table. "Damn it. The Dark Ocean... That's Dragomon's territory! And Daemon is sealed up in there!"
"Hasn't stopped you before." Rush seemed unconcerned, still chowing down. "You rush into situations like that all the time without thinking. That tactic tends to work for you."
Keith looked at his partner, his expression now neutral. "Those times were nothing compared to this."
"If you weren't so caught up in your own screwup, I don't think you'd have cared." Rush finished his meal, smiling. "Yeah, you said some stupid things, but don't we all do something like that in our lives? Heck, does it even matter which villain is more evil?"
Keith clenched his fist, thinking about it. "No, it doesn't... They're both complete monsters. They've both gone beyond the moral event horizon. What matters is making sure they never hurt anyone ever again."
He swallowed down his milk, before getting up from the table, and walked over to one of the walls, where a longsword was hung up on display...
He took the sword off the stand, along with the sheath that hung beside it, sheathed it, and slung it over his back, looking back at Rush with a grin. "What the hell are we waiting for? Come on. Let's go."
"WOO!" He grinned. "That's the Keith I know!"
Keith walked over to his computer, holding out his Digivice. "Digital Gate... OPEN!"
