I was considering letting this wait until the Christmas thread ends, but then I remembered that this section doesn't get as much love as it should, and non-canon threads tend to die off as a result, so nobody will mind another thread. But, what the heck. I thought this would be a really fun idea.
Basically, this is a multi-locale thread, encompassing pretty much anywhere on Tamers-Earth. There is a good reason for this, but hopefully, it won't be too problematic.
At Keith's apartment...
"HUZZAH! IT'S FINALLY HERE!"
He strolled in proudly, holding two separate boxes that just came in the mail. It was about time, it was three days late. For some reason which Keith could simply not fathom, the SBURB Beta was sent out in the mail, rather than simply allowing its participants to download it. In this day and age, nobody really cared if the size of the program was huge, downloading was just convenient.
However, this was no ordinary game. When it was originally shown off, the videos and hands-on demonstrations took the entire world by storm. Its creator and publisher had appeared completely out of nowhere, boasting innovative new technologies that seemed to defy the laws of physics and reality. One of their less recent products was the 'Sylladex', a system capable of allowing one to hold objects in 'Captchalogue Cards', effectively allowing the user to hold heavy or a lot of objects while not worrying about weight or space. There were several types of 'Fetch Modi' to retrieve said objects, and nearly all of them tended to be needlessly convoluted. For example, Keith had a 'Tree' Fetch Modus, Christa had one based on Pictionary, Yosuke got a 'Hash Map' Modus just to be ironic, and Souji had enough common sense just to get a damn wallet to hold his cards in.
Anyway, back to SBURB. On first glance, it was a Sims-like game, but for some unexplainable reason, it was capable of affecting the real world. It was played with at least two players - one for the Server, and one for the Client. The Server player could manipulate the environment around their Client, including changing the size and dimensions of rooms, and even entire buildings, theoretically, as long as it was in range of the Client. The creators obviously knew it would be popular, because when they made the call for open beta testing, pretty much everyone wanted to get their hands on the Beta.
Which would probably explain why it was so late, then.
Rush looked around the corner, smiling, as she heard the news. "Really?! Omigod, this is gonna be AWESOME!"
Keith sat down at his computer, with a sigh of relief. "You know it." He put on his headphones, and turned on his D-Ear. Normally the D-Ear was to be used for 'important' stuff, but for this occasion, pretty much everyone wanted to listen in on what was going on for obvious reasons.
"About time! I'm already installing my client and server disks!" Christa smirked, smugly, as she sat back in her apartment.
Rina, was flying around Christa's apartment, being a busy bee to burn off her excitement.
"Same here! Sorry, Keith, but you're too slow!" Yosuke also seemed rather smug, sitting in his room all the way over in Inaba.
"Shut up, Yosuke. By the way, how the hell did you guys manage to rope me into this, anyway?"
"Oh, like you weren't gushing about this Beta too, Hideto."
"He has a point, Hideto."
"Yeah, you were shivering like crazy with excitement!"
"... Point taken."
"Hmm... Who else has the Beta? Perhaps a better question would be who DOESN'T have it..."
"Knowing Izzy, he probably already has a copy of the Beta." He sighed, as he placed in the Server disk first. He was promptly greeted by the coolest installation screen ever. "Now... Who's gonna be whose Server and Client players?"
Yosuke froze at this question, realising how many potential players they had among their group alone. "Oh, hell."
"This is gonna be more convoluted than a Sylladex, isn't it?"
