Open Sea - What're the Odds?

A short while after Pokémon Island had vanished, three certain Digimon were out at open sea, abandoned to their own devices.

"Dude, I can't believe that we got ditched..." Surfimon muttered, as he was surfing on his board, looking ahead of him. "That is totally bogus, dudes."

"Mood: Saddened." Raidenmon uttered, as he floated right next to Surfimon, TigerVespamon resting on the machine's back.

"...kkh... abandoned like trash..." TigerVespamon growled, as he folded his arms. "...why?"

"...maybe because we got ourselves a bodacious beating?" Surfimon inquired.

"...doubt it." TigerVespamon responded. "We made a fantastic ambush..."

"Perhaps this was intended for us all along." Raidenmon suggested.

"No way, dude! We were gonna serve Lords WaruSeadramon, Cherrymon, Machinedramon and Marine, right?" Surfimon protested. "So why would they throw us away like pieces of broken surfboards! Dude, that is totally not gnarly!"

This voice caused the three Digimon to glance to their side...

...where a wounded man sat on a Nidoqueen swimming next to them, having gone unnoticed until now. "It's a bit hard to concentrate on not fainting when there's constant chattering in the background.

Cue awkward silence between the five.

Hearing that voice, Giovanni would normally have frowned... however, even in this condition, he smirked. "...heh... a human voice... pity it had to be you, Lance."

"Hn?" Blinking, Surfimon looked around him. "Dude, who said that?"

"Identity: Unknown." Raidenmon uttered.

Standing on top of a Dragonite, he crossed his arms and glared at Giovanni. "Yes... pity... it's a pity that a poor Nidoqueen has some dirt on her back..."

"Now, now; we both know how he can be..." Giovanni chuckled, as he stroked his Nidoqueen's head. "...well, it's been a while, Lance. Still intent on killing me?"

Looking up at the red-haired Champion, Surfimon tilted his head. "...who's this dude?" he uttered.

"Three years.... and quite frankly.... it's getting boring..." He hissed, crossing his arms. "And I'm going to make sure it's falls for good this time..."

"Will you, now?" Giovanni chuckled. "Lance, do you honestly think that if I die, Team Rocket will simply crumble?" Then, he stared the Pokémon Champion straight into his eyes. "The organization's four executives... as well as all the grunts who work there... they are blindly loyal to me. They'd follow me, even in death. So, even if I die... they'll carry out my word." After saying that, he closed his eyes. "You'd have a better chance of destroying Team Rocket if you went for those currently in charge."

"Besides..." Giovanni continued, as he grinned. "...you still haven't answered to your own crimes, Lance."

He snarled, gritting his teeth. "And how is my crimes worse than yours...? You've created TWO Legendary Pokemon out of science and threw them away like trash..."

"And you intended to summon one Legendary Pokémon to destroy humanity." Giovanni mused, before chuckling. "Really, why Bruno and Koga even decided to follow you after everything settled down is beyond me... especially Bruno. Have you even apologized to him, for what you had Agatha do to him?"

The only thing you'll accomplish is killing a man who has had nothing to do with that organization for years; making you guilty of cold-blooded, unprovoked murder."

"Weren't you three talking about how you had been abandoned?" Giovanni mused, before looking up at Lance again. "And not only that... but I have a sneaking suspicion that their master also has taken control of Ho-Oh."

"The fact that she thought that a couple of innocent girls, along with my own son, were nothing but Pokémon hunters, in spite of what they told her." Giovanni chuckled. "That, and she tried killing one of those girls... she'd have been dead right now, if not for my intervention."
